The New Orleans Saints signed center Chris Watt after the former San Diego Charger tried out at the team's mandatory minicamp last week, the team announced Monday.

Watt, whom the Chargers drafted out of Notre Dame in the third round in 2014 to be their starting center, has started 13 games in the NFL, but his career has been derailed by injury.

After starting eight games as a rookie, he had offseason ankle surgery, then suffered a groin injury, a concussion and a season-ending shoulder injury.

Watt then missed all of 2016 after knee surgery, but New Orleans liked what it saw during minicamp. Watt adds another player to the mix of veterans who can play guard and center, joining Senio Kelemete and Josh LeRibeus.
