The Saints trimmed down their roster on Monday to make room for new players by releasing safety Marcus Ball, linebacker Kyle Knox and safety Ty Zimmerman, according to sources.

The moves come after the team drafted nine rookies and signed several more undrafted players.

Ball was signed out of the Canadian Football League last season and played 98 snaps on defense, serving mostly in a reserve role. He also filled a role on special teams.

Knox hooked on with the Saints in 2013, first serving on the practice squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster late in the 2014 season. He logged three defensive snaps last season and played a role on special teams.

Zimmerman joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent last season out of Kansas State, where he recorded 256 tackles, 13 interceptions and 27 passes defensed during his tenure, but spent the season in injured reserve.
