Saints cornerback Trevin Wade, an exclusive rights free agent, has re-signed with New Orleans, according to NFL contract expert Brian McIntyre.
Wade this week inked a one-year, $570,000 contract. Signed in November, he played two games with New Orleans and broke up one pass. He made a tackle on special teams in the postseason and will compete for a roster spot among a group of cornerbacks headlined by Keenan Lewis.
Wade entered the league as a seventh-round draft pick for Cleveland in 2012.
On another note, ESPN’s John Clayton reports that the decisions to release defensive veterans Will Smith, Roman Harper and Jabari Greer as well as not re-sign soon-to-be free agent Jonathan Vilma got the Saints more than $2 million under the salary cap. The Saints were reportedly $14 million — give or take — over a 2014 salary cap of some $126 million.
