Veteran linebacker David Hawthorne is inactive on Sunday, a clear indicator that Dannell Ellerbe is ready to go.
Hawthorne’s snaps have been few and far between when the Saints are healthy at linebacker. Due to the emergence of James Anderson, Hawthorne took no snaps on the defense last week, three against Atlanta and 11 against Philadelphia.
The rest of the Saints’ inactives are players who were initially signed to provide depth for injured players, a sign that players like Ellerbe and Damian Swann are ready to go.
Ellerbe has missed the last five games, and Swann has missed six of the last seven after suffering two concussions in a span of a month.
Wide receiver Willie Snead is also back in the lineup after missing the game against Carolina.
