Despite practicing fully this week and being listed as probable to play on the road Sunday against the Steelers, Saints receiver Robert Meachem was scratched, according to the team.
That means Saints receivers Joseph Morgan and Nick Toon will both be active together for a second straight week after not being used much earlier in the season. Morgan last week had a 67-yard run off an end-around and a 62-yard reception in a loss at Baltimore, and Toon has three catches for 42 yards this season.
This is the fourth game in a row Meachem will miss as he’s been dealing with an ankle issue. He’s caught five passes for 85 yards.
Other Saints inactives are running back Khiry Robinson, cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste, cornerback Terrence Frederick, linebacker Kyle Knox, nose tackle Lawrence Virgil and tackle Nick Becton.
Robinson (forearm) and Knox (hand) were ruled out Friday with their injuries. The rest are healthy scratches.
Meanwhile, as expected, after the Saints (4-7) put nose tackle Brodrick Bunkley (quad) on season-ending injured reserve this week, second-year man John Jenkins will start in that spot. Under him will be veteran Brandon Deaderick, in his first season with the Saints.
For the Steelers (7-4), the inactives are quarterback Landry Jones, wide receiver Justin Brown, cornerback Cortez Allen, cornerback B.W. Webb, linebacker Ryan Shazier, offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert and defensive lineman Steve McClendon.
Shazier (ankle) was questionable. McClendon (shoulder) and Allen (thumb) were ruled out Friday. Probable Steelers such as cornerback Ike Taylor (forearm) and wide receiver Martavis Bryant (illness) are available to play.
The Saints and Steelers kick off at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field at noon.
