The New Orleans Saints, who are 3-1 when Dannell Ellerbe is in the lineup, are still searching for an answer when the veteran linebacker isn’t available.
Four different players — David Hawthorne, Ramon Humber,Michael Mauti and now James Anderson — have logged starter-type responsibility in the eight games Ellerbe missed, and on Sunday against Carolina, the Saints opted to give Anderson 76 snaps even with Humber and Mauti available.
Injuries also put several other little-used Saints in big roles. Tyeler Davison, taking over at nose tackle, played a season-high 66 snaps, and cornerback Brian Dixon played 42 snaps, more than he’d played on defense for the entire season to date.
With that in mind, here’s a look at Sunday’s snaps, the last eight games and the percentage of playing time for every Saint who’s seen some time on either offense or defense so far.
