WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. — Notes and observations from Tuesday’s practice:
Brown and out: About an hour into his first practice as a member of the Saints, defensive tackle Austin Brown went down with an an injury and was carted off the field. Brown became injured during a blocking drill with offensive lineman Mike McGlynn. It’s a tough break for a guy who was looking for a shot to prove himself in the NFL. A source said he hurt his knee and that it’s “not good,” but there’s no final word yet.
Low-key practice: The Saints worked on some goal-line situations, had a handful of full-team reps, and then ended practice with some drills at half speed. The team was apparently working through some odds and ends before the Patriots arrive for joint practices. Running back Mark Ingram and tight end Josh Hill had touchdowns during the goal-line drill.
Davis Tull returns: Fifth-round pick Davis Tull took part in his first full practice since coming off the PUP list. The rookie linebacker was previously rehabbing from labrum surgery. He’s receiving his reps at SAM linebacker and is still working to get up to full speed. He appeared to have a run stuff in the goal-line drill.
Hill turns it on: Tight end Josh Hill got off to a slow start in camp and then missed some time with an injury. He said the reason for his absence was due to a “hip mishap.” After looking good against the Ravens, he showed up with two catches for big gains on Tuesday.
Walking off: Tight end Kevin Brock and safety Kenny Vaccaro left practice with members of the training staff after individual drills ended.
