The Saints were without a handful of players during the open portion of Wednesday's practice.

Among those missing were defensive tackle Nick Fairley, offensive tackle Andrus Peat, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, cornerback Sterling Moore and defensive end Paul Kruger.

Ellerbe (quad) and Kruger (back) did not play in Sunday's game against the Panthers. The ailments of the other players are not yet known.

Rookie defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (fibula) was present for practice. He started the season on injured reserve and will not be eligible to play for two more weeks.

Offensive tackle Terron Armstead was present for practice. Cornerback Delvin Breaux (fibula) was present for stretch.

The official designations and the level at which each player participated will be announced later this afternoon.
