Veteran Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem was a new addition to New Orleans’ injury report due to a hurt ankle that sidelined him for Thursday’s practice, according to team officials.
Four other Saints players didn’t practice Thursday either: running back Khiry Robinson (arm), running back Pierre Thomas (rib/shoulder), linebacker David Hawthorne and right tackle Zach Strief (chest). They all missed at least Wednesday’s session.
Saints center Jonathan Goodwin (knee/ankle), running back Mark Ingram (shoulder) and wide receiver Kenny Stills (thigh) were limited, as they were Wednesday. As he did Wednesday, tight end Jimmy Graham (shoulder) fully participated in team drills.
Robinson and Thomas have missed the last two games hurt for the Saints (4-4). Ingram, Travaris Cadet and Edwin Baker are other running backs on the Saints’ roster.
Hawthorne missed the last game hurt, and his backup is Ramon Humber. Strief left the last game hurt, and his backup is Bryce Harris. Meachem wasn’t listed as being out Wednesday — under him on the depth chart at receiver is third-year pro Nick Toon.
Goodwin has missed the last two games hurt and left three prior contests early due to injury. Ingram and Stills sustained their injuries in the last game. Graham has not missed any game action despite first getting hurt in an Oct. 5 win at home against Tampa Bay.
Meanwhile, 49ers linebackers Dan Skuta (ankle) and Patrick Willis (toe) did not participate in San Francisco’s team drills on Thursday. Cornerback Tramaine Brock (toe), running back Frank Gore (hip), wideout Brandon Lloyd (hamstring), nose tackle Ian Williams (shin) and defensive tackle Quinton Dial (eye) were limited.
Dial was new to the injury report. And 49ers defensive end Justin Smith returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday due to a reason unrelated to an injury.
The Saints host San Francisco (4-4) at noon Sunday.
