After using the 13th pick the draft to move up for a high premium player, it figured that the Saints would probably stay put at No. 31, the pick they got from Seattle in the Jimmy Graham trade.
They did that and filled a need at inside linebacker by taking Stephone Anthony of Clemson.
Anthony rated as low as the fourth rounder a month ago and just two weeks ago Sports Ilustrated ranked him fifth among inside linebackers.
But on Thursday the Saints made Anthony (6-foot-3, 243 pounds) the first to be taken at his position.
With the departure of Curtis Lofton, the Saints have a vacancy at ILB that Dannell Ellerbee, acquired from Miami in the Kenny Stills trade isn’t assured of filling.
