A Jefferson Parish deputy on a motorcycle that was part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers motorcade struck another deputy who was directing traffic outside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after Sunday afternoon's game.
The deputy who was struck was directing traffic at Loyola Avenue and Girod Street about 4:30 p.m. when the Buccaneers buses came through as they left the Superdome, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said.
As the convoy made a turn, a deputy on one of the motorcycles trailing the buses crashed into the deputy directing traffic, Fortunato said.
The deputy who was hit was taken to University Medical Center with a head injury that doctors do not believe is life-threatening, Fortunto said. The other deputy was knocked off his motorcylce but did not sustain any injuries, he said.
The identities of the officers involved in the crash have not yet been released. Both were working paid details at the time.
