1 So much for the idea of Tulane playing it conservative to help out redshirt freshman Tanner Lee. The Wave came out throwing and kept trusting him, passing for first downs on third-and-1 in the second half and throwing two straight times on second-and-2 and third-and-2 a little later.

2 Running back Sherman Badie is the breakaway threat Tulane coach Curtis Johnson thought he would be. After looking sluggish early, Badie streaked for a 90-yard touchdown run and was sharp the rest of the way. He gives the offense a dimension it has not had in a long time.

3Tulane’s young defense makes big plays but is not as good as a year ago—yet. Tulsa, which had one of the worst offenses in the country last season, was well above 400 yards midway through the fourth quarter and took advantage of secondary mistakes for some huge plays.
