TAMPA, Florida — Jeremy Montalbano hit three solo home runs as the Tulane baseball team overpowered South Florida for a 7-1 win Saturday.

Montalbano put the Green Wave (30-14, 10-5 American) ahead with homers in the second and fifth innings before Coco Montes cut into the lead with a solo shot of his own in the bottom half. That was one of five hits Ross Massey (8-2) allowed over 5.1 innings, during which he struck out six batters.

Tulane bolstered its 2-1 lead with two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings. Montalbano’s final home run came in the ninth inning, an emphatic punctuation to his 4-for-5 performance at the plate.

Right-hander Corey Merrill was masterful in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, limiting the Bulls (21-25, 6-11) to one hit while striking out five.
