The Tulane women’s golf team advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships on Saturday with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA East Regional at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.

Tulane will join 23 other schools and six individuals at the NCAA Championships, May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

The Green Wave will make its fifth all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship field, including its fourth in the past six years. Tulane is coming off a school-best ninth-place finish in last year’s national championship.

Emily Penttila was the Green Wave’s low player Saturday with a 2-under 70 and completed the event at 3-under for 11th place.

Silvia Garces was all even heading into her final hole but double bogeyed and finished the day 2-over and 6-over for the event for 47th place overall.

Belen Goicoechea shot 4-over and finished in 55th-place, while sophomore Madison Opfer carded a 5-over 77 today and completed the event in 69th place. Gemma Dryburgh went to the clubhouse with a 6-over 78 and posted a 36th-place finish.

Vanderbilt led wire-to-wire and claimed the regional title, while South Carolina was second, Duke and North Carolina State each tied for third. Stanford was fifth, Virginia was sixth, Tulane was seventh and Campbell posted an eighth-place finish. These eight teams will advance to Tulsa for the national championship rounds.

Vanderbilt’s Jenny Hahn claimed individual medalist honors with a three-stroke win over teammate Kendall Martindale and Baylor’s Hayley Davis.
