NEWPORT, R.I. – Tulane’s first bowl season in 11 years isn’t doing the Green Wave too much good when it comes to predictions about how it will do in its first season in the American Athletic Conference.
A poll of 30 media members covering the conference schools has Tulane tied with Connecticut for ninth place in the 11-team league.
That’s one spot above Tulsa, which the Wave plays in its season opener on Aug. 28.
“We’ve probably been close the bottom before,” said Tulane senior safety Sam Scofield, one of four Wave players here for the conference’s media days. “We’ll forget about it in a few days anyway.”
Cincinnati was tabbed for first place with 17 of the 30 first-place votes. Central Florida was second and Houston third.
The league did not select a preseason All-Conference team.
