Tulane interim baseball coach Jake Gautreau will interview with Louisiana Tech this week, several sources confirmed to The Advocate.
Gautreau, who is a candidate for the Green Wave’s vacant coaching position, took over for coach Rick Jones on March 21 after he was forced to step down due to health concerns. Jones officially retired last Friday after 21 seasons with Tulane, opening the school’s first nationwide baseball coaching search since 1993.
Following the Green Wave’s final game this season, Gautreau publicly stated he wants the Tulane head coaching position. The former Green Wave All-American third baseman and Conference USA Player of the Decade served as Jones’ hitting coach since 2010 and recruiting coordinator since 2012.
“This is home for me,” Gautreau said. “This is a place I take a lot of pride in the way I go about my business and I want to stay.”
Louisiana Tech, meanwhile, is replacing Wade Simoneaux who was fired on May 19 after three losing seasons with the Bulldogs.
