1. Coach Curtis Johnson is not happy with defensive end Royce LaFrance, a consensus preseason first-team All-AAC pick whose 61/2 sacks last year were the most for a returning Tulane player. Johnson singled out LaFrance as an underperformer in camp and said he needed to concentrate less on accolades and more on getting better.
2. Left offensive tackle Arturo Uzdavinis missed his second consecutive day with a mild hamstring injury. Nate Skold and Todd Jacquet shared time with the first unit in Uzdavinis’ absence.
3. Running back Dante Butler missed his second practice in a row with pink eye. Any lost time can be detrimental at Tulane’s most wide-open position. Asked about the backs after practice, Johnson said Sherman Badie, Lazedrick Thompson, Josh Rounds and Dontrell Hilliard would share the load. He did not mention Butler.
