The Tulane baseball team will look to build on some momentum gathered over the weekend when the Green Wave hosts Nicholls State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Turchin Stadium.

Tulane (17-24) posted its first weekend series win of April by taking two of three from Wichita State at home over the weekend. Freshman Hunter Hope’s 12th-inning grand slam yielded a 5-1 victory Friday, and freshman Lex Kaplan’s RBI single in the ninth gave Tulane a 5-4 win Saturday. Wichita State dodged the sweep with a 10-3 win Sunday.

Nicholls State (25-20) took sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference this past weekend with a sweep of UNO. The Colonels are riding a six-game winning streak but fell 1-0 to visiting Tulane on Feb. 25.

In that game, Tulane’s Tyler Mapes allowed one hit in seven innings while striking out seven before relievers Dan Rankin and Andrew Garner shut the door on the Colonels. Freshman catcher Jake Rogers doubled in the eighth and came home on an error for the lone run.

Tulane will turn to sophomore right-hander Alex Massey on the mound Tuesday. The Catholic High product most recently started against Rice on April 13, when he pitched two innings while allowing four runs.

He will be opposed by junior righty Ryan Deemes. A former Holy Cross pitcher, Deemes has made nine starts this season, amassing a 2-2 record and 3.74 ERA.
