Nashville, Tenn. — Jose Urena went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, and improved to 4-0 as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Nashville Sounds 4-1 on Monday.
The Zephyrs improved to 5-0 in games that Urena has started. Urena has a 1.21 ERA which is the best in the PCL.
Vinny Rottino led off the fourth inning with a single and scored on a two-out infield hit by Scott Sizemore. The Sounds answered with a run in the home half of the fourth. Austin Wates singled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on a single from Miguel Rojas to give the Z’s a 2-1 advantage.
The Z’s added a pair of runs off of switch pitcher Pat Venditte in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 4-1.
Nashville starter Brad Mills took the defeat working six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He falls to 0-4 in eight career starts against the Zephyrs.
Vinny Rottino had a base-hit and now has reached safely in 17 consecutive road contests. The Zephyrs are 11-6 in the month of May.
The Zephyrs continue a four-game road trip at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday in Nashville. The Z’s will start LHP Adam Conley (3-2, 3.89) against RHP Chris Bassitt (1-2, 4.74)
