Memphis 3, New Orleans 2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Stephen Piscotty’s two-run double in the bottom of the third inning carried the Redbirds past the Zephyrs at AutoZone Stadium on Friday night.

Piscotty’s double capped a three-run third for Memphis (40-46). Piscotty later scored on Xavier Scruggs’ RBI single.

The Zephyrs (44-44) rallied with two in the top of the fourth behind consecutive singles by Josh Rodriguez, Zack Cox and Jordany Valdespin. Kyle Jensen’s then drove home both Rodriguez and Cox on a single to center field.

Tim Cooney (8-5) got the win, going eight innings and giving up six hits. Zephys starter Brian Flynn (7-6) took the loss. Flynn pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.

Marlins recall Marisnick

The Miami Marlins recalled center fielder Jake Marisnick from the Zephyrs. Marisnick flopped in his first stint with the the Marlins last month (.170), but he’ll get another opportunity with Derek Dietrich (wrist) headed to the disabled list.

Bullpen woes

In Thursday night’s loss to Round Rock, the Express exploited scored five runs in the seventh inning and three more runs in the eighth to rally past the Zephyrs.

The Express claimed three of four games in the series to send the Zephyrs to their sixth loss in seven games.

With the contest tied 6-6 in the eighth, five straight Round Rock batters reached base, highlighted by a go-ahead two-run infield single by former Zephyr Bryan Petersen. J.P. Arencibia added an RBI single for his third run batted in of the night, capping an eight-run outburst against a Zephyrs bullpen that owns a 6.64 ERA over its past 11 games.
