Round Rock, Texas — Kyle Jensen and Juan Diaz each hit a home run, and the Zephyrs pounded out a season-high 20 hits, but it wasn’t enough on a wild Sunday as the Round Rock Express defeated the Zephyrs 15-12.
The teams combined for 27 runs and 35 hits, and every position player had a hit in the game that lasted nearly four hours. The Express jumped to a 9-4 lead when the Zephyrs bats came alive and scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score at 9.
The Express answered in the bottom of the seventh by scoring six runs. The Z’s rallied with three in the eighth inning and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth when Miles Mikolas closed it out for his second save of the series.
Diaz led the Z’s with three hits and four RBIs. Zack Cox had a season-high four hits.
The Zephyrs continue their road trip in Round Rock with the final game of the four-game series set for 11:30 a.m. Monday. The Zephyrs will start LHP Brian Flynn (2-2, 3.67 ERA) against Express LHP Ryan Feierabend (4-1, 2.94).
