PAPILLION, Neb. — Kendry Flores pitched six shutout innings, and the Zephyrs bullpen picked up the final three innings to earn their league-best 11 shutout of the season as New Orleans defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers 2-0.

Flores matched up against the young fireballer from the Kansas City Royals, Yordano Ventura. Ventura on a rehab assignment for Omaha, nursing an injured hand, pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits. He won 14 games a year ago for the Royals and made four postseason starts including two World Series games.

Flores delivered the win for the Zephyrs, he scattered six hits in six innings and five strikeouts. It’s the second consecutive win for the 23-year-old and both have been shutouts on this road trip. Ventura took the loss for Omaha.

The Z’s scored in the sixth inning when Vinny Rottino was hit by a pitch. Kila Ka’aihue singled and Omaha replaced Ventura on the mound. Juan Diaz doubled to left field off of Brian Broderick, and the Z’s grabbed a 1-0 lead.

New Orleans added a second run in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 2-0. Lay Batista pitched a scoreless seventh, Greg Nappo the eighth and Nick Wittgren earned his 10th save, pitching the ninth.

The Zephyrs, 37-41 on the season, trail Round Rock by nine games.
