Round Rock, Texas — Trevor Adams hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Round Rock Express a 4-2 win over the Zephyrs on Tuesday night, ending New Orleans’ winning streak at six games.
In the decisive inning, Brett Nicholas singled to left and Joey Gallo dropped a hit into shallow right before Adams went opposite field to give the Express the win. Round Rock has won five of six.
The teams traded home runs in the second before New Orleans took the lead in the fifth on a Robert Andino RBI double.
The Zephyrs’ Chris Reed pitched seven innings and allowed one run on four hits for his fifth consecutive quality start. Tyler Kinley pitched the eighth and ninth, taking the loss in his second career Triple-A appearance.
The second-place Express improved to 35-28; the Zephyrs fell to 31-32.
The blown save was the Zephyrs’ league-leading 13th of the season. ... Despite the loss, the Zephyrs have won 10 of 12.
The Zephyrs continue the four-game road-trip Wednesday in Round Rock. They will start RHP Paul Clemens (6-4, 4.04 ERA) against RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (3-5, 5.02). The game will air on WODT-AM, 1280.
