Colorado Springs, CO. — Colorado Springs scored five runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 9-6 on Saturday.
Former Zephyr Matt Dominguez drilled a two run double to give the Sky Sox the lead in the seventh inning.
Michael Kirkman picked up the win in relief and Jaye Chapman earned his fourth save pitching the 1.2 innings.
The Zephyrs out-hit Colorado Springs 15-13, but stranded 12 runners. Cole Gillespie and Vinny Rottino led the Zephyr attack with three hits each.
The Z’s lead the series 2-1 and are 31-36 on the season.
The Miami Marlins promoted pitcher Justin Nicolino and he earned his first Major League win working seven shut out innings. Nicolino was 4-3, 2.87 ERA in 13 starts. The Z’s added relief pitcher Craig Stem from Class AA Jacksonville. Pitcher Chris Narveson will join the New Orleans roster on Sunday.
