Zephyrs vs. Cubs, postponed rain

New Orleans’ game Friday night against the Iowa Cubs at Zephyr Field, scheduled for 7 p.m., was postponed after a 36-minute rain delay. The game will be made up at 5 p.m. July 30 as part of a doubleheader.

Saturday’s game

WHAT: New Orleans Zephyrs at Omaha Storm Chasers

WHERE: Werner Park, Papillion, Neb.

WHEN: 7 p.m.

PROBABLE PITCHRS: Zephyrs LH Brian Flynn (3-2, 3.79 ERA) vs. Storm Chasers RH Sugar Ray Marimon (3-1, 2.30)

broadcast : WMTI-FM 106.1, MiLB.tv.

Zephyrs hard-throwing reliever Henry Rodriguez is eighth in the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts, with 37.

However, he reached that total in far fewer innings than the league’s other pitchers — 191?3. Rodriguez leads the PCL in strikeouts per nine innings at 17.22. Opponents are batting just .123 (8-for-65) against him, which leads all relievers.

Before Friday’s game, he was particularly stellar in his last outing, getting out all nine batters he faced in Tuesday’s 5-4, 11-inning loss to Iowa. Four of the outs were strikeouts.

However, command often is an issue. He leads the league in walks, with 23, and wild pitches, with seven.

Rodriguez, who is from Santa Barbara, Venezuela, and was signed by the Oakland Athletics in 2003 as a non-drafted free agent, has done better of late. He has not allowed a run or a hit in his past seven innings, spanning three appearances. He has walked four during that time, but that came in one game — on May 3 at Round Rock, but he fanned five.
