COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — Zephyrs pitchers retired the final 26 hitters and delivered the seventh shutout of the season in a 4-0 win on Friday night.
The Z’s picked up their second consecutive victory and improved to 31-35 on the season.
Travis Blackley pitched five shutout innings in a spot start after scheduled starter Justin Nicolino was scratched and allowed two hits in five innings. The Sox got a pair of hits in the first inning, but Blackley retired his final 14 hitters before turning it over to the bullpen.
Vinny Rottino led off the fifth inning with a double and scored on a two-out base hit by Brandon Bantz. Miguel Rojas led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on a single by Kila Ka’aihue to give the Z’s a 2-0 lead. Rojas went 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple.
The Zephyrs bullpen retired the final 12 Sky Sox as Grant Dayton and Nick Wittgren each pitches two perfect innings to complete the shutout.
