DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa took advantage of a key error and picked up timely hits as Iowa scored 13 runs on 11 hits on Wednesday to defeat the Zephyrs 13-4 on Wednesday.

The Cubs improved to a league-best 27-5 in day games, while the Zephyrs fell to 11-15 in day games.

The Cubs took advantage of a two-out error by Ed Lucas in the fifth inning, scoring five unearned runs and extending a 3-1 lead to 8-1. Iowa’s Kris Bryant, Lars Anderson and Ryan Kalish each had three RBIs.

Cubs starter Dae-Eun Rhee (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit to get the the win. Zephyrs starter Brad Penny (1-1) took the loss allowing eight runs — three earned — on eight hits in 4.2 innings.

The Cubs lead the series two games to one with the series finale on Thursday.
