NASHVILLE, Tenn. —A three-run, third-inning home run from Destin Hood paced the Zephyrs offense in a 7-4 victory to open a four-game series Saturday night in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hood had four RBIs, and Xavier Scruggs was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and two RBIs. Kenny Wilson added a pair of hits and two runs.
The Zephyrs scored four times in the third inning, but Nashville answered with four in the fourth. Hood’s run-scoring single — which came after Scruggs doubled — gave the Zephyrs the lead in the fifth, and they added single runs in the sixth and ninth.
Four Zephyrs pitchers combined to allow just three hits, but they walked five. Greg Nappo (2-0) got the win with two scoreless innings in relief of starter Ivan Pineyro, who gave up four runs in four innings. Andre Rienzo handled the ninth for his third save.
Nashville starter Chris Smith (0-3) allowed five runs in as many innings.
