OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Dodgers swept a doubleheader from the New Orleans Zephyrs to hand the Zephyrs their fifth consecutive defeat Sunday.
The Dodgers got a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth inning of the opener to wipe away a 2-0 deficit and grab a 4-2 lead. The starter Eric Surkamp pitched five innings and earned the win. Blake Logan made his Triple-A debut and pitched five innings and suffered the defeat.
The Zephyrs started the nightcap with a lead-off triple by Reid Brignac and scored on a sacifice fly, but the Zephyrs’ 1-0 lead was short lived. Oklahoma City sent seven batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring three runs on five hits. Dodgers starter Zach Lee, a former LSU football commitment, went the distance limiting the Zephyrs to four hits for the win. Travis Blackley took the loss.
The Zephyrs fall to 49-60 on the season and continue the road trip Monday night.
The Zephyrs have added catcher Tomas Telis. He was involved in the trade with the Texas Rangers on Friday. The Zephyrs assigned catcher Brandon Bantz to Double-A Jacksonville.
The Zephyrs were swept in the doubleheader for the fourth time this season. The Z’s have been swept in eight of their last 10 twin bills dating back to the 2012 season.
Vinny Rottino extended his hitting streak to six games and has reached base in 15 of the last 16 contests. He also picked up his team leading 25th multi-hit game.
The Zephyrs schedule has them playing 18 consecutive games against first-place teams. In the stretch, the Zephyrs are 0-3.
The Zephyrs continue the five-game road trip on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The Z’s will turn to RHP Kendry Flores (3-2, 2.47) vs. LHP Eric Stults (1-1, 3.42). The game will be broadcast on WMTI 106.1 FM.
The Zephyrs return home Wednesday against Round Rock to open a nine-game homestand.
