Round Rock, Texas — New Orleans starter Paul Clemens pitched six shutout innings, while limiting the Express to two hits and matched his career high with 10 strikeouts, but it was not enough as the Zephyrs drop a 2-1 decision. The Zephyrs lost three of four in the series.
Destin Hood drilled a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 advantage. The home run for Hood was his team leading seventh of the season.
Clemens in the seventh inning yielded to the bullpen with a 1-0 advantage. Reliever Cody Ege walked the first three batters he faced. Patrick Kivlehan’s RBI single tied the game and Ege got Drew Robinson to ground into a double play, but the go ahead run scored.
Express starter Nick Tepesch pitched seven innings allowed one run on five hits for the win. Carlos Fisher earned his fourth save of the season.
The Zephyrs (14-16) are four games back of the first-place Express (18-12).
The Zephyrs are 8-6 in a stretch of playing 20 of 26 games on the road.
The Zephyrs out-hit Round Rock 5-3 in the game and lost for the first time when outhitting the opponent.
