Salt Lake City, Utah — Kyle Jensen drove home his league-leading 87th RBI with a second-inning two-run double and the Zephyrs held on to defeat Salt Lake 6-5 on Monday.
New Orleans scored three in the second inning, added two in the third inning and Derek Dietrich drilled a solo home run in the seventh to provide the offense for the Zephyrs.
The Z’s led 6-1 when the Bees picked up three runs in the seventh, two of the runs were unearned. Zephyr starter Alex Sanabia (7-5) earned the win working 6.2 innings, while alloweing four runs, two unearned on nine hits.
The Bees added another unearned run in the eighth and cut the Zephyr lead to 6-5. Arqumedes Caminero worked the final 1.1 innings, while striking out three for his ninth save.
The Z’s picked up their second consecutive win and improved to 67-70. The Memphis Redbirds won and officially eliminated the Zephyrs from playoff contention.
Kyle Jensen with his 87th RBI is a new career best. Brian Bogusevic added a hit and extended his hitting streak to seven games.
The Zephyrs continue their eight day road-trip on Tuesday with a 8:05 p.m. game against the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark.
