Salt Lake City — Brennen Boesch drilled a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning to break a five all tie game to deliver the Salt Lake Bees a 6-5 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs at Smith’s Ballpark on Wednesday.
The Z’s offense erupted early with four first inning runs. Mark Canha drove in a run with a RBI double. Josh Rodriguez singled home two more runs.
The Bees answered with a four run second inning. The big hit was with two outs and two men on and Shawn O’Malley singled to right field, the ball got past Kyle Jensen and O’Malley advanced all the way home on the error and scored three runs to tie the game.
The Z’s took the lead in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez. The Bees tied it with a two out base hit from Tony Campana scoring John Buck in the sixth.
Boesch led off the eighth with the homer and Salt Lake wins their home finale and gets a split with New Orleans.
Vinnie Pestano (1-1) earned the win pitching an inning and a third. Steve Ames (0-1) took the loss for the Z’s. Andrew Heaney got the start and allowed five runs, three earned in six innings.
The Zephyrs fell to 5-12 on Wednesday’s their worst day of the week. Juan added two hits and extended his hit streak to seven games. The Z’s finished the road schedule with a 34-38 record.
