R ound Rock , Texas — Brett Nicholas delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to score the go-ahead run as the Round Rock Express defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-4 at Dell Diamond.
The inning started with Chris Gimenez being hit by a pitch and then Beemer Weems was walked by Rob Morey. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third base. The Z’s intentionally walked Hansel Alberto to load the bases, and Gimenez delivered the sacrifice fly.
Ross Ohlendorfer (3-3) picked up a blown save for Round Rock allowing a run in the top of the sixth inning but earned the win. Morey (1-2) took the loss. Zephyrs pitchers walked eight, plus hit one batter. Jarred Cosart started for the Zephyrs and allowed two runs on three hits, throwing 94 pitches in four innings.
Former LSU standout Austin Nola led the Zephyrs with three hits. The Zephyrs’ Brandon Bantz delivered a two-run homer.
The Zephyrs are 41-47 on the season and trail Round Rock by 10 1/2 games.
The Zephyrs continue the road trip against the Round Rock Express with a game at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The Zephyrs will start right-hander Kendry Flores (2-0, 1.86 ERA) vs. right-hander Nick Martinez (0-0).
