PAPILLION, Neb. — Kila Ka’aihue delivered three hits and knocked in four runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers 8-4 in the series finale Friday night. The win gets the Z’s a split in the four-game series.
Ka’aihue played four seasons for Omaha from 2008–11 and hurt his former club Friday night with a key two-run double in the second inning and a two-run single in the fourth.
The Z’s had two big innings, a four-run second and four-run fourth. Former LSU standout Austin Nola also had a two-hit night for the Zephyrs.
Andre Rienzo threw six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and earned his second win. Rob Morey worked the final three innings for the save. Omaha starter Buddy Baumann took the loss, allowing four runs in a 1.1.
The Zephyrs are 38-42 on the season and trail Pacific Coast League leader Round Rock by nine games.
The Zephyrs return home for a four-game homestand starting with a 6 p.m. game Saturday against the Iowa Cubs.
The Zephyrs will start right-handed pitcher Jose Urena against Cubs right-hander Frank Batista. The team will also have a postgame fireworks show.
