RENO, Nev. — The New Orleans Zephyrs pounded a season-high 14 runs and hammered a pair of first-inning home runs to defeat the Reno Aces 14-3 on Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.

The Z’s sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring five times off Reno starter Gabriel Arias. Jordany Valdespin worked a lead-off walk, and Scott Sizemore doubled him home. Reid Briganac then homered and made it 3-0. Cole Gillespie walked, and Derek Dietrich drilled a two-run homer to make it 5-0.

Pat Misch was excellent for the second consecutive start. He pitched five innings allowed two hits and one run on short rest, earning his second consecutive win.

Dietrich led the Z’s with five RBIs, and Brignac had a season-best four hits.

Arias took the loss pitching two innings allowing five runs. He was ejected in the third inning along with Reno manager Phil Nevin after hitting Dietrich.
