NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The New Orleans Zephyrs hit a pair of home runs as they defeated the Nashville Sounds 4-1 on Friday night. It was the Zephyrs’ second consecutive win and improved them to 44-55.
Jhonatan Solano hit a solo home run to left field to lead off the third and give the Z’s a 1-0 advantage. The Sounds answered with a solo home run by Bryan Anderson in the fifth.
Jordany Valdespin singled to open the seventh and scored on a two-run blast from Isaac Galloway for a 3-1 lead. New Orleans added to the lead with a run in the eighth.
Kendry Flores (3-2) earned the win, allowing one run and six hits in 6.2 innings. Nick Wittgren earned his 13th save working the ninth inning.
The Zephyrs improved to 10-1 in games in which they hit more than one home run. ... The Z’s are 21-17 in games they have hit a home run. ... The Marlins promoted Zephyrs pitcher Andre Rienzo, who was 2-6 with a 3.01 ERA in 15 games. ... Wittgren is tied for third in the Pacific Coast League with 13 saves.
The Zephyrs face the Sounds at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. New Orleans will start LHP Justin Nicolino (5-6, 3.62 ERA), while Nashville opens with LHP Brad Mills (4-9, 4.09). The game will be broadcast on WMTI-FM, 106.1. ... The Zephyrs return home Tuesday against Colorado Springs for a four-game homestand.
