R ound Rock , Texas — The game took 4 hours and 17 minutes, but the Zephyrs scored a pair of runs in the top of the 14th inning and held on to beat Round Rock 8-6.
New Orleans took advantage of two walks in the 14th inning and an error to score a pair of runs, and reliever Cody Ege pitched three innings for the win.
Xavier Scruggs lead the Zephyrs with a pair of home runs. Matt Juengel also homered for New Orleans. The Z’s grabbed the lead in the 13th inning with an RBI single from Kenny Wilson but the Express answered in the bottom of the inning. Round Rock loaded the bases, and Trever Adams was hit by a pitch.
The Zephyrs outhit the Express 15-8 but struggled with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-15.
The Zephyrs have won 11 of their past 13 games.
The Zephyrs continued the four game road-trip Thursday in Round Rock. The Z’s will start right-hander Dylan Axelrod (4-2, 3.83) against right-hander Michael Roth (5-2, 3.22).
The Zephyrs return home Friday to host Oklahoma City in a four game set.
