2008 All-Metro Boys Soccer Team

MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS
Marcus Dyer
Woodlawn

Dyer helped lead the Panthers to their first appearance in the Division I-Class 5A title game and is an All-Metro choice for the second time. The junior forward tallied 22 goals and 12 assists while claiming Offensive MVP honors in Division I, District 5.

Fred Parker
Tara

Parker is part of the All-Metro team for the third straight year and is a two-time district MVP who led the Trojans to the Division II-Class 4A semifinals. The senior midfielder compiled 35 goals and led all local competitors with more than 82 in the last two years.

Defender, Sr.

Had 11 goals, four assists and is a two-time Metro pick along with being a Division I, District 5 MVP.

Chris Baker
Baton Rouge High
Midfielder, Sr.

Also a two-time Metro choice, compiled two goals, three assists and was the Division I, District 5 overall MVP.

Brett Capello

Forward, Sr.

Division II, District 5 Offensive MVP had 38 goals while leading Trojans to the playoff semifinals.

Sterling Perryman

Goalkeeper, Jr.

Tallied 45 saves and three shutouts and also allowed only three goals during WHS’ title-game run.

Division III, District 4 Offensive MVP had 19 goals and seven assists to help Cubs to the semifinals.

Division III, District 5 Offensive MVP helped team to quarterfinals with 24 goals and 10 assists.

Division I, District 6 Defensive MVP set the tone for a defense that put the Griffins in the playoffs.

Division III, District 5 Defensive MVP added seven goals and four assists while also leading defense.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Andrew Barnes
Woodlawn

Barnes made his sixth season as Woodlawn’s coach memorable, leading the team to a runner-up finish in Division I-Class 5A after the Panthers placed third in Division I-District 5. Woodlawn ousted defending state champion Jesuit-New Orleans before a 2-1 loss to Caddo Magnet in the title game.
