The Lafayette Bar Association honored Donovan “Donnie” Jay O’Pry II, of the O’Pry Law Firm, as he was installed as the group's 2017-18 president. The event was held at Iberia Bank Tower downtown and attended by both bench and bar. Conducting the swearing-in of O’Pry was Judge Charles Fitzgerald. “I am truly humbled and honored to be chosen to serve as the president of the Lafayette Bar Association,” O’Pry said. “The Lafayette Bar Association is without a doubt one of the finest in the entire country, and I look forward to continuing our mission.” Newly installed Executive Committee members apart from O’Pry include President-elect Maggie Simar, Theodore Glenn Edwards IV, Melissa Theriot and Thomas R. Hightower Jr.

Welcome to New York

Lafayette Travel, along with Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, the Louisiana Office of Tourism, the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board and the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association, teamed with Hoffman Media for “Sights, Sounds & Tastes of Louisiana.” This private event gave New York media and more the chance to experience Louisiana live music and menus as only the Bayou State can produce. Out of 10 chefs selected to represent, two were from Lafayette — Dark Roux’s Ryan Trahan and chef Holly Goetting, of Charley G’s.

She’s Got the Look

Mary Neiheisel received Lafayette’s prestigious Civic Cup Award at the Petroleum Club for her outstanding humanitarian service. Awarded to an individual whose community service pursuits are outside their profession, Neiheisel was chosen by a panel of past honorees for her civic involvement, including Zonta International, Faith House, the performing arts and United Way. “I was speechless,” Neiheisel said. “Ed Abell called to tell me and said he had some good news. I thought he had the wrong Mary.” Neiheisel is a professor of nursing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the 85th recipient of the Civic Cup, given today by the Community Foundation of Acadiana.
