The Eta Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority presented 16 debutantes at its 26th annual Winter Cotillion on Jan. 6 in the Grand Ballroom of the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lafayette.
The ball, “An Enchanted Evening of Elegance," was the pinnacle event after several months of activities including etiquette workshops, community service, dance rehearsals, a college tour and the Mother-Daughter Hat Luncheon.
The evening began with greetings from President Quintella T. Baskerville. Mistresses of Ceremonies were Tanya Provost Sias and Justice Henderson. Eleven high school juniors who are prospective debutantes served as tea girls.
The evening continued with the presentation of the debutantes, the debutantes’ dance with their fathers and the cotillion dance with escorts, which was choreographed by Chesteena Bishop. Karen Abernathy Haith led the evening’s toast, then each debutante was presented with a gift. Thailund Porter Green and Tracey Biagas-Hill, chairwomen of the debutante committee, closed out the presentation as the evening gave way to a formal dance.
