The Krewe of Victoria held its 25th Bal Masque on Feb. 2 at the Cajundome Convention Center with a theme of "Love Is in the Air."
Queen Victoria XXV Renee Claire Mayer Borne, with Prince Albert XXV Johnny Plasencia, reigned over the Silver Jubilee festivities. Borne joined the krewe in 2000 and has many roles, including vice president, dame and assistance dame commander, royalty chairwoman, duchess and has danced with the Victoriettes.
Members of the Royal Court were Duchess Stephanie Verrett, escorted by her husband, Duke Brandon Verrett, representing "Love Boat"; Duchess Pam Comeaux Zuschlag, escorted by her husband, Duke John Zuschlag, representing "Jungle Love"; Duchess Colette Billeaud Smith, escorted by her husband, Duke James Smith, representing "Chapel of Love"; Duchess Kim Blanco, escorted by her husband, Duke Brian Blanco, representing "Love Bird"; Duchess Nancy Marcotte, escorted by her husband, Duke Tom Marcotte, representing "Love Potion No. 9," and Duchess Virginia Atkins, escorted by her husband, Duke Jimmy Atkins, representing "I Love Rock 'n' Roll."
Royal attendants to the queen were her grandchildren, Elise Joy Walker, Lucy Love Walker and Austen James Guilbeau. Valets to Prince Albert were Dr. Stan Foster, Daniel Bloomer, Dewayne Castille, Troy Turner, Barry Semar and Bruce Bartels.
Dame Commander Jeanie Simon Domingue portrayed the Amor of Romance, Cupid, as she cast her spell on the ladies of the court.
King Gabriel LXXXVI extended greetings and good wishes along with an invitation to the royal couple from the Greater Southwest Mardi Gras Association. For this task, he sent Gregory "Trey" Gerard Leger III, the grandson of krewe member Lynn Crochet, Queen Victoria II and her husband, Mike Crochet, Prince Albert XIV.
Entertainment was provided by the krewe’s dance group and their husbands, the Victoriettes and Victors. Members and guests danced the night away to the music of Louisiana Red.
