It was so loud, you’d have thought it was game day. Basketball royalty from forever ago met at the UL-Lafayette Alumni House to reunite and reminisce. “This was the heyday, one of them at least,” said “Voice of the Cajuns” Don Allen. Celebrating the players, coaches and their supporting casts at The University of Southwestern Louisiana during the years of 1974-86, the beer and buffet reception paid court to men’s basketball greats Jim Hatfield, Bobby Paschal, Tom Cox, Alonza Allen, Graylin Warner, Kevin Figaro, Dale Lyles, Stephen Beene and ceiling-scraper Dan Gay, who played professionally in Italy for 26 years after departing USL. In the mix: Booster Marilyn Jankower, university President E.J. Savoie and the missus, recent graduate Jean-Marie Allen, Tommy and Karren Hays, our own Advocate sportswriter Dan McDonald and soon-to-be-wed George Foster and Rootie Moore.
