Demonstrators gathered Sunday at the Shell gas station on the Evangeline Thruway where Lafayette police shot and killed Trayford Pellerin Friday night.

Police officers encountered Pellerin when they responded to a disturbance call involving a person armed with a knife at a convenience store along NE Evangeline Thruway and Castille Avenue, State Police said.

Following several speakers, demonstrators walked into the Evangeline Thruway blocking traffic, marching up and down a section of the highway and finally walking to Moss Street where police dispersed the crowd using gas canisters and made several arrests.
