Lafayette General Health will hold a registered nurse recruiting event July 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Club in River Ranch.

Lisa Deaton will kick off the event with a lecture on registered nurses influencing health care policy and will continue with opportunities to network and learn about career opportunities at Lafayette General Medical Center, University Hospital & Clinics, St. Martin Hospital and Acadia General Hospital.

Participants are encouraged to bring copies of their ré sumé .

The first 50 pre-registrants at will be entered to win a door prize.

Concealed carry, gun safety

A class on the state’s concealed weapons carry law and basic pistol safety will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through South Louisiana Community College’s continuing education department.

The course, approved by the State Police, is $185 and includes a learner’s packet, application for permit, notary fee and lunch.

Upon completion, participants will be qualified to apply for a Louisiana Concealed Weapon permit and learn basic pistol safety and handling skills. The course includes range time, and for an additional $30, a firearm and ammunition can be furnished for the course.

Petit Tour du Teche

Registration is open for the Aug. 1 youth races of Petit Tour du Teche in Breaux Bridge.

The race is for younger paddlers ages 5 to 17 and will begin at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux in Breaux Bridge. Registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt.

On-site registration begins at 7 a.m., safety check is at 8 a.m. and the first race begins at 9 a.m. Register online at

‘Good morning, Baltimore!’

Iberia Performing Arts League presents the musical “Hairspray” as part of its annual summer youth musical series starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the theater at 126 Iberia St.

Performances continue through July 26 with runs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.

Bayou BBQ Bash

The fourth annual Bayou BBQ Bash, an official competition of the Barbecue Competitors Alliance, will be July 24-25 in downtown Morgan City.

The event features corporate and kids’ barbecue competitions, along with live music, food and crafts. About 50 teams are expected to compete. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. Friday and continue at 8 a.m. Saturday.
