The Lafayette Education Foundation is now accepting nominations for its 17th annual Teacher Awards.

Nominations may be submitted by anyone who wishes to recognize active Lafayette Parish public, private or parochial educators who teach in preschool through 12th grade.

Finalists will be recognized during the foundation’s annual Academy Awards-style awards show Jan. 22.

Festival honors Al Berard

The inaugural Al Berard Music Festival is Nov. 29 at the Hendry Guidry Memorial Park in Henderson to benefit a fund in Berard’s memory to help support music students.

The Al Berard Memorial Music Fund is a Community Foundation of Acadiana fund and will help provide instruments, master teachers and music scholarships to students of all ages.

Shadows-on-the-Teche fair

The Shadows-on-the-Teche Fall Arts and Crafts Fair is scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the historic home on Main Street in New Iberia.

More than 100 vendors from across Louisiana will showcase their work. Admission to the fair is $5 for teens and adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 11, and includes a tour of the home. Proceeds will benefit the continued preservation and maintenance of the National Trust Historic Site.

Race benefits hospice

The Cycle for Hospice of Acadiana fundraiser begins Oct. 11 at 7:30 a.m. in the Oil Center.

The event has 25- and 50-mile routes that begin in the Oil Center and travel northward through scenic downtown Lafayette toward Pont des Mouton Road and loop back to the Oil Center.

Early bird registration is $35 through Oct. 9. Late registration is $40, and on-site registration will be available.

A pre-registration party is planned Oct. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Corner Bar, 3103 Johnston St.
