LAFAYETTE — Marlene Foreman, program coordinator of Hospice of Acadiana’s veterans program, has been named Louisiana American Legion Auxiliary Woman of the Year.
The award honors those for their advocacy on behalf of veterans, their families and their communities.
Foreman is the coordinator of We Honor Veterans, a program that focuses on the needs of veterans and their families while in hospice care. The program trains volunteers to work with the veterans’ families and also offers specialized programming.
The veterans-specific program was created by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to address the unique needs of dying veterans.
Foreman is a U.S. Navy veteran and is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 271 in Kaplan.
She and her husband, Jim, also a veteran, plan to attend the National American Legion convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August.
