Festival International de Louisiane, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles and Downtown Alive! have partnered to create what they call a “music triangle of support” to make it easier to donate money to all three organizations.

Donations of $100 or more made online through ILove Festivals.org will be divided among the three organizations.

“Our three festivals are lucky enough that we had such a long history of bringing free music to Acadiana,” said Kate Durio, with the Downtown Development Authority. “We want people to know how that happens so that if they love it and if they love coming to Downtown Alive!, they love music and they love where they live and having access to all these things, we’re just asking that they help spread the word.”

The idea to collaborate for a fundraiser came from the organizers of Festivals Acadiens et Créoles.

“We are the three oldest music entities in the area, which got me to thinking, ‘Why don’t we do a collaborative fundraising to where someone who likes all three music events can support all three music efforts?’ ” said Patrick Mould, vice president of development and programming for Festivals Acadiens et Créoles. “We are constantly trying to come up with ways to make the public to learn that yeah, we say it’s free but it’s not really free. We invest a tremendous amount of money in producing these events.”

Though the festivals receive donations, sponsorships and grants, most revenue comes from the drink sales at the events.

“We want to encourage people to support and help to fund these festivals by leaving outside beverages and ice chests at home and continuing to purchase beverages from official event vendors,” said April Courville, with Festival International de Louisiane.
