Paul Baker has been named head of school for the Episcopal School of Acadiana effective July 1, the private school announced Thursday.

Baker has worked at ESA since joining the faculty in 1996 as a science teacher.

“I have been part of this community for nearly 20 years, as a parent, teacher, administrator and now head of school, and I can say with complete confidence that the future has never looked brighter,” Baker said in a statement.

“We have a school full of creative and innovative students and faculty who live the ideals of ESA and every day create the culture of excellence that exists here.”

Baker has been serving as interim head of school.

He earned his doctorate in evolutionary and environmental biology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and also holds a master’s degree in paleoecology and a multidisciplinary bachelor’s degree in the areas of anthropology, music composition and chemical engineering.
