Golf tourney deadline set

April 1 is the deadline to sponsor a team for this year’s Superintendent’s Scholarship Golf Tournament, which is scheduled April 11.

The tournament raises funds to assist Lafayette Parish School System graduates in their first year of studies after high school. Students are selected based on academic potential, financial need and desire to succeed. Since the tournament started in 1997, more than $400,000 has been raised to support students’ post-graduation studies.

The April 11 tournament will take place at The Wetlands.

Eco-friendly craft workshop

Learn how to make eco-friendly water jugs using gourds during a Jan. 9 artisan workshop at Vermilionville.

The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon and will be presented by Brady McKellar, Vermilionville’s director of museum operations. The gourd water jug was popular through history — from early Native Americans to soldiers in the American Civil War. Participants will leave the session with a water jug of their own.

Cost is $30 per person and the class is limited to 10 people.
