A Crowley man died Thursday after he fled a vehicle to get away from a passenger who tried to rob him before shooting him, police said.

Daniel Tezeno Jr., 24, died from his gunshot injuries at Acadia General Hospital after the 2 a.m. shooting, Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson said.

Police are looking for the suspect, 24-year-old Darius V. Thomas, also of Crowley, Gibson said in a news release.

Gibson said the two men were in a vehicle on Jacobs Avenue near West 7th Street when the shooting occurred.

“Our investigation at this point indicates that a struggle between Tezeno and Thomas occurred in the vehicle while it was moving,” Gibson said. “During this struggle, our investigation leads us to believe that Thomas shot Tezeno as he was attempting to flee the vehicle.”

“We believe the motive behind this crime is robbery,” Gibson said.

Thomas is being sought on one count of first-degree murder and is considered armed and dangerous.

He is described as 6-foot, 1-inches tall, weighing 125 pounds with medium length hair and clean-shaven. Thomas’ last known address was 100 Kathy-Meadows Apartments No. 21.
